Team

When Darby Construction Services was established in 2018, the objective was to enhance recognition of the Quantity Surveyor role (QS) and expand availability to a skill that was not fully utilized in the U.S. construction market.

Crucial in ensuring that projects are completed within budgetary constraints and that the client’s financial interests are protected, Quantity Surveyors ensure effective cost management, accurate financial reporting, and cost optimization in construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Clients, the primary responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor include Cost Estimation, Planning and Control, Procurement, Value Engineering,  Final Accounts and Dispute Resolution.

Donal Sutton and Paul Stanton, Darby’s Principals, were born and educated in Ireland, and earned their bachelor’s degrees in construction-related fields. Donal’s degree focused on Quantity Surveying, while Paul graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and later became chartered as a Quantity Surveyor. This unique combination of skillsets allows Darby Construction Services to effectively manage projects while providing precise budgets for their clients.

Donal Sutton | Principal

Donal has nearly two decades of experience in all construction industry sectors across Ireland and the U.S. His portfolio highlights include high-end residential, retail and commercial office fit-outs; building infrastructure upgrades; elevator installations; and more than two million square feet of new data center construction.

Known for his proactive problem-solving skills and attention to detail, Donal can identify and resolve issues with minimal disruption both before and during construction. He understands the importance of maintaining a sharp focus on budget management and client satisfaction while remaining committed to delivering successful project outcomes.

Before joining Darby Construction Services, Donal served as a senior estimator with a major NYC construction firm, taking the lead on large-scale projects from inception to final account. Actively participating in day-to-day project operations included budgeting and trade interviewing/leveling prior to construction; cost management and invoicing during construction; along with final trade and budget reconciliation at closeout.
